Addressing Homelessness in San Luis Obispo

Blue houseHousing and homelessness are intertwined. The fact is that you cannot reduce homelessness without first making it easier to provide more housing. This webpage will help you understand what the City of San Luis Obispo is doing to reduce homelessness and expand housing options for all. This webpage also provides resources for property owners, our unhoused community members, and the helpers in our community who want to make a difference.

Our vision is that all community members in SLO City are empowered to successfully prevent and address concerns related to homelessness through equitable access to a variety of resources, and that periods of unsheltered homelessness within SLO City are reduced due to regional capacity to conduct timely outreach and connect individuals and families to a range of housing options.

What We're Doing

At a high-level, here’s what we’re currently doing to prevent and address homelessness:

1. We’re focused on expanding interim, permanent supportive, affordable, and workforce housing in the City of SLO, in partnership with the County and local housing service providers.

2. We are working directly with local homeless service providers and the County to coordinate our outreach, communications, and pilot program efforts to prevent and address homelessness.

3. We have outreach staff with our Community Action Team, Mobile Crisis Unit, and Community Service Officers who connect unhoused community members with mental health, drug and alcohol, and housing services available through the County and local service providers.
