OVERVIEW

General Municipal Elections are conducted in the City of San Luis Obispo in November of even-numbered years.  The next General Municipal Election will take place in the City on November 4, 2014 for purposes of filling two seats on the City Council, each for a term of four years, and the position of Mayor, for a term of two years.  Click here to view the Notice of Election.  Click here to view Resolution Nos. 10518 and 10519.

MEASURE G-14

ESSENTIAL SERVICES TRANSACTION (SALES) AND USE TAX

To protect and maintain essential services and facilities – such as open space preservation; bike lanes and sidewalks; public safety; neighborhood street paving and code enforcement; flood protection; senior programs; and other vital services and capital improvement projects – shall the City’s Municipal Code be amended to extend the current one-half percent local sales tax for eight years, with independent annual audits, public goal-setting and budgeting, and a Citizens’ Oversight Commission?

PROCESS TO SEEK ELECTION FOR MAYOR OR MEMBER OF THE COUNCIL

Any person desiring to seek election for Mayor or Member of the City Council must be a registered voter of the City of San Luis Obispo at the time nomination papers are issued by the City Clerk.  The nomination period for the November 4, 2014 election begins July 14, 2014 and closes on Friday, August 8, 2014 at 5:00 p.m.  During this period, individuals may take out, circulate and file nomination papers.  If an incumbent for one of the offices being voted upon does not file nomination papers by 5:00 p.m. on August 8, 2014, the filing period for that office will be extended until August 13, 2014 at 5:00 p.m.  During this extension period, any eligible person, other than the incumbent, may take out, circulate, and file nomination papers for that office.

VOTER REGISTRATION INFORMATION

The last day to register to vote to be eligible to vote in the November 4, 2014 election is October 20, 2014.  You will need to re-register if there has been a change in your status since the last election (name change, new address, etc).  Registration forms are available at City Hall, 990 Palm Street, San Luis Obispo, and you can also register to vote online at  www.sos.ca.gov.

NOMINEES FOR MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF CITY COUNCIL

This portion of the City's website will be added after the close of nominations and after the ballot order has been determined by a randomized drawing conducted by the Secretary of State.  Please log onto this section of the website after August 8, 2014 to obtain a listing of citizens who will appear on the ballot.  You may also call the City Clerk's Office at 805-781-7100 during the nomination period to receive updates on citizens who have taken out nomination papers, filed nomination papers, and/or qualified to be placed on the ballot.

ELECTION DAY

The polls will be open on Election Day (November 4, 2014) between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.  Your polling place will be indicated on your Sample Ballot that you receive in the mail.  You may also learn your polling place by calling the San Luis Obispo Registrar of Voters at 805-781-5000, or by logging on to the San Luis Obispo Registrar of Voters' website at www.slocounty.ca.gov/clerk.

CITY CLERK'S OFFICE HOURS

The City Clerk's Office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m.  This office is closed during national holidays.  Please call 805-781-7100 for more information.
