Who is eligible for Automatic Payment?
All residential and commercial customers billed by the City of San Luis Obispo are eligible for Automatic Payment. Your account must be in good standing and not subject to other existing payment arrangements, with no more than one returned check within the last 12-month period.

How do you enroll/sign up for this payment option?
Print out the online Automatic Payment Application (pdf) form and fill it out completely. Attach a voided check from the checking account that you wish the payment to be withdrawn from and mail the application to P.O. Box 8112, San Luis Obispo, CA 93403-8112, or drop it off at 990 Palm Street (City Hall) in the Finance and Information Technology Department.

When does Automatic Payment start?
Automatic Payment will become effective 30 days from the date we receive your application.

If I discontinue my water and sewer account, will my final payment be automatically withdrawn from my bank account?
No. Final bills will require a payment by check, cash or credit card.

Once I have Automatic Payment, how do I make changes to the information on my enrollment form?
Please call the City of San Luis Obispo at (805) 781-7133 to request a form or print the online Automatic Payment Application (pdf) form and enter the necessary changes. You may mail the form changes to P.O. Box 8112, San Luis Obispo, CA 93403-8112, or drop the form off at 990 Palm Street (City Hall) in the Finance and Information Technology Department. Inaccurate information may result in payment refusal by your financial institution. The City will not be responsible for delays or losses that result from inaccurate information or failure to provide us with timely notification of changes.

What happens in the event of a rejected payment?
Your financial institution may reject payments because of insufficient funds, closed accounts, or other reasons. Check with your financial institution for possible fees it may impose. If your payment is rejected, the City of San Luis Obispo will impose a returned item charge on your next water and sewer bill. The City reserves the right to terminate your participation in Automatic Payment if your payment is rejected more than once within a 12-month period.

Will I still receive a water and sewer bill from the City of San Luis Obispo?
Yes. When you sign up for Automatic Payment you will continue to receive a bi-monthly bill.

When will the Automatic Payment be withdrawn from my checking account?
Payment will be withdrawn 16 calendar days after the billing date. The date of withdrawal will appear in the "Amount Paid" field on your bill.

How can I cancel Automatic Payment?
You may cancel your participation at any time by calling the City of San Luis Obispo at (805) 781-7133. Termination will become effective 10 business days after we receive your notification.
