Request for Proposals
Specification No. 90838 The Art in Public Places Program of the City of San Luis Obispo, California is requesting proposals in an open competition for artists to incorporate art into the street improvements at Buena Vista Avenue and Garfield Street at Monterey Street. At total of, $88,000 is available to the artist or artists commissioned for this piece. Interested artists are invited to submit proposals for the artwork by no later than 3:00pm on July 31, 2008. Proposals shall be submitted to the City of San Luis Obispo, Department of Finance and Information and Technology, 990 Palm Street, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401. The City intends to use a blind selection process; wherein no names are shown to the selection committee that determines which artists will be chosen for interviews. Proposals must contain the artist’s name, address and telephone number on a separate sheet of paper, which will be removed from the proposal package. Any identification placed on any of the submitted materials should be put on the reverse or under side. Proposals will be opened publicly. Proposals received after said time will not be considered. A pre-proposal informational meeting and walk-thru will be offered so that artists may become familiar with the layout, the design, and functions of the intersections at Buena Vista Avenue and Garfield Street at Monterey Street. This will be an opportunity to ask any questions regarding the City’s request for proposals. A non-mandatory walk-thru will be held on May 30, 2008 at 10:00am in front of the Apple Farm Inn, 2015 Monterey Street.
