Music: African-Style Drumming

This class will introduce young people to African style drumming using djembe drums. Basic percussion techniques will be taught along with an introductory repertoire of rhythms. Cultural and historical significance of specific rhythms will be presented with each rhythm. Two to three+ rhythmic patterns combine to recreate the specific named rhythm. All instruments will be provided. Instructor Paul Trent has been drumming for 40 years and is happy to share his love and knowledge of the rhythms of West Africa.
