TYPE OF INCIDENT:  Arrests for Firearms, Narcotics and Warrants

PLACE OF OCCURRENCE: Marsh Street Parking Structure, San Luis Obispo

SUSPECTS: Felipe De Jesus Ortiza, age 38, resident of Santa Maria

                     Maritza Hernandez, age 30, resident of Santa Maria

DETAILS:

On Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at 10:30 am, an officer on patrol observed a vehicle with no front license plate traveling in downtown San Luis Obispo, and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle as it was entering the Marsh Street parking garage. The driver did not yield to the officer until he reached the second floor of the garage. The officer contacted the driver, Felipe De Jesus Ortiza, age 38 and a resident of Santa Maria, and discovered he had a felony warrant for his arrest out of Santa Barbara County.

Ortiza was taken into custody for the warrant. During a search of the vehicle, officers found one unloaded revolver, one .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun that was loaded, one disassembled lower portion of a handgun, ammunition, 121 grams of methamphetamine and fentanyl (approximately ¼ pound), approximately $2100 in cash, a scale and a lock box safe.

The passenger in the car first provided a false name but later admitted her identity. Maritza Hernandez, age 30 and a resident of Santa Maria, was found to also have a warrant for her arrest out of San Luis Obispo County and was also taken into custody. Hernandez is also on active probation in SLO County and was found to have some of the narcotics on her person.

Ortiza was booked into SLO County Jail on the following charges, all felonies:

PC 12022(C) Enhancement – Commit Drug Offense and be Armed With Firearm

PC 29800(A)(1) Possession Of A Firearm By A Felon (x2)

PC 25850(A) Carrying A Loaded Firearm

PC 30305(A)(1) Unlawful Possession Of Ammunition

HS 11351 Possess/Purchase For Sale - Controlled Substance

HS 11366.8(A) Possess False Compartment For Drugs

Hernandez was booked into SLO County Jail on the following charges, all felonies unless otherwise noted:

PC 530.5(C)(2) Identifying Information Theft

PC 853.8 Warrant for Arrest Upon Failure to Appear (misdemeanor)

HS 11364(A) Possession of Paraphernalia (misdemeanor)

HS 11377(A) Possession Of Controlled Substance (misdemeanor)

PC 1203.2 Probation Violation  

Hernandez was not granted bail, she will not be released from custody. This incident is still under investigation.
