A Comprehensive Park System
The City of San Luis Obispo has started the design of a comprehensive parks system within the newly developed Orcutt Area/Righetti Ranch neighborhood. This comprehensive park system is required by the conditions of approval of the Orcutt Area Specific Plan and the Righetti Ranch Development.
Park Update
The initial park construction project is forecasted to break ground in winter 2024/2025 with the emphasis on the first phase of the Community Park to incorporate the playground, turf fields, restroom facilities, and outdoor seating area, including the initial walking paths. More details on the project timeline for construction will be communicated to the community as the timeframe gets closer.
Background: The Righetti Ranch development has multiple park locations: three separate properties comprising of a comprehensive community park, smaller linear park, and pocket park, along with the trailhead and trail at Righetti Hill (off Twin Peaks Rd).
Please note that the initial concept designs that the developer created back in 2016 and some options and amenities have evolved based on the community’s input for the Parks and Recreation master plan (Parks + Recreation Blueprint for the Future: 2021-2041) which was adopted in July 2021. The Righetti Ranch park system is a priority for the City and the City Parks & Recreation Department is excited for this new park system to support both the new development and our community.
Conceptual Designs
Informed by the Parks & Recreation Blueprint (master plan – July 2021), the City's design consultant has recreated the conceptual designs to meet the recreational needs of the residents now living in the community and the City as a whole.
There are three park sites and a trailhead to be designed and constructed:
- The Community Park (approximately 11.25 acres)
- The Linear Park (approximately 1.16 acres)
- The Pocket Park (approximately 0.20 acres)
- The trailhead and trails at Righetti Hill Open Space (approximately 1-1.5 mile trail)
