The items in your blue-lidded recyclables container are taken to the Cold Canyon Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), just outside of the City.

The MRF is located on the same parcel of land as the landfill, both of which are owned and operated by Waste Connections, the parent company of San Luis Garbage. The MRF sorts the contents of your blue lidded container and preps them for transport to different buyers for further processing.

The contents of your green-lidded organics container are taken the Hitachi Zosen Inova Anaerobic Digester (HZI Compost Facility). This in vessel system relies on bacteria to convert organic materials into a high-quality organic compost and carbon-neutral biogas. The biogas is converted into enough electricity to power 600 homes a year.

HZI sells the compost to large scale users and hosts two public give away events each year.  In the rare event that the HZI facility is down for maintenance, organic materials are taken to Engel & Gray, Inc. located in Santa Maria for composting.

The items in your black-lidded landfill container are buried at the Cold Canyon Landfill located just outside of the City. The landfill is owned and operated by Waste Connections, the parent company of San Luis Garbage.

The landfill is permitted The MRF sorts the contents of your blue lidded container and preps them for transport to different buyers for further processing. The facility is permitted to accept up to 1,650 tons per day and has a remaining capacity of 13,000,000 tons.
