Inflow and Infiltration (I/I) occur when groundwater or rainwater flow into the sewer system, either through a direct connection or through seepage through cracked laterals, leaky pipe joints and/or deteriorated manholes. Flows into the City’s sewer system from I/I can create a variety of problems and can lead to spills and compliance problems.

Sewer laterals have been identified as a significant source of I/I and the Utilities Department will be looking into a program to help homeowners replace their damaged laterals. The City is interested in hearing from our customers about this important issue.
