San Luis Obispo has been designated a Bicycle Friendly Community since 2007. Our bicycle network is over 60 miles of bike paths, bike lanes, and on-street facilities. Locking and securing your bike is easy with hundreds of bike parking spaces throughout the City. Need a bike? Through the RideWell Program, Bike SLO County’s Bike Kitchen staff and volunteers refurbish gently used bikes and provide them at no cost to children, families, and peoples with mobility-related challenges. Participants also receive a free bike helmet, lights, a lock, and a bike safety education course. 

SLO Transit is the City’s bus and provides daily fixed-route transit services within the City Limits and to Cal Poly. The bus offers an affordable yet convenient way to discover San Luis Obispo.

Paying the fare: TokenTransit App is an easy way to purchase bus rides or passes on your phone (iPhone and Android). It is a great, convenient, and easy way to board the bus! Users get 50% off their first fare using the app.  You can also get bus passes at City Hall’s finance desk. 

New Discounts: K-12 students now have a discounted rate of $0.75 for one ride or $11.25 for 15 rides. Show your student ID when using the bus.  

Trolly: The Old SLO Trolley (operated by SLO Transit) offers loops around Downtown and upper Monterey Street depending on the time of year. What could be a more enjoyable way to explore our historic downtown?

Regional Bus Service: The Regional Transit Authority (RTA) offers bus services within the County of San Luis Obispo connecting in to the City. For more information, contact RideShare.

Greyhound offers a stop in the City at 1460 Calle Joaquin Street.

Shuttles and Taxis make it easy to get around when you are looking for service that takes you door-to-door. Specialized transportation services in SLO County include senior & airport shuttles, dial-a-rides, Runabout ADA service and other volunteer-based programs.

Use the Tips & Tools via Rideshare to select the type of shuttle or taxi that best suits your needs, or call 511 for personalized trip planning assistance. Local taxi services include Yellow Cab Co, Surf Cab Co, and 234 Taxi. Download the Uber app to utilize their special program. UberWINE allows you to request a personal driver to stay with you while wine tasting in San Luis Obispo. The Lyft app provides quick trips from point A to B.

A strong, accessible, and visible electric vehicle (EV) charging network will provide user confidence and help induce increased EV ownership. In order to support the sustainable transportation option of electric vehicles, the City continue to expand EV charging on public property to meet the community's current and future needs.

There are currently several EV chargers available in public parking garages downtown. Currently, the only publicly available chargers on City property are located in the Marsh Street public parking structure. These Level 2 chargers have seen steady and continual growth in use since 2020. Estimates indicate that EV charging demand will be 10 times the current level by 2030.

To address the growing demand for electric vehicle (EV) charging, the City is partnering with a third-party vendor to install Level 3 EV chargers in City-owned parking lots, with implementation ongoing until 2035. A contract has been signed for the installation, operation, and maintenance of these chargers, and further installations will be assessed based on initial success.

The City also promotes the installation of publicly accessible EV chargers on private property, especially in low-income and underserved areas, and supports a public EV carshare program. Key locations for these chargers include offices, shopping malls, schools, parks, and multi-family housing.

The City’s Public Works Department is continuously hard at work to get you to your destination safely—starting with the design of the roadways all the way to the pothole maintenance. While driving, keep an eye out for construction in the roadway.
