Installed in 1956, the current waterline on Johnson Avenue is due for an upgrade. This project will focus on replacing the vital water piping responsible for supplying a substantial portion of water to the southeast side of San Luis Obispo.

Replacing this waterline, will ensure that people will have water without any interruptions, provide the necessary flow for fire hydrants and medical facilities along Johnson Avenue and Bishop Street, and make the City's water system more reliable by having a backup water line for at least another 60 years.

Project Timeline

Construction for this project is anticipated to commence in early 2024 and end in late summer 2024.

The initial phase of the project will include storm drain replacement at the intersections of Johnson Avenue & Ella Street, and Johnson Avenue & Bishop Street. In the second phase, work will focus on replacing the waterline along Ella Street and Bishop Street before moving into the final phase of replacing the waterline along Johnson Avenue.
